Biography
Award-winning pianist Da-Hee Kim performs as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Europe. In recent seasons, she has performed at Mostly Piano Recital Series at Drapers' Hall in Coventry, Steinway Hall in London, Festival Arcades at Le Buisson, Salle Colonne in Paris, and Concert Jeunes Talents in duet with her brother, violinist Da-Min Kim, at Centre Culturel Coréen in Paris. For the upcoming seasons, she is invited to perform at the Lovecy Sunday Concert Series at St Nicholas Church, Salquin Hall at Hochschule für Musik in Luzern, Switzerland, and Tuesday Lunchtime Recital at St Andrews Church in Rugby.
Mrs Kim has played as a recitalist at Kumho Prodigy Concert, Young Artist Concert at Seoul Art Centre (recital hall), Festival Chopin à Paris, Festival du Pays du Matin calme à Saint-Germain-en-Laye, Congrès des Sociétés Chopin à Vienne, Festival Ars Terra, Soirée Musicale de Vénéjan, Festival Villeveyrac, and Pause Piano de Jeune Talents. She has appeared as a soloist with Seoul Symphony Orchestra, Varna National Orchestra, Russian Philharmonic Orchestra, and Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra.
As a collaborative pianist, she has collaborated with Thomas Leleu, Magali Mosnier, Sung-Won Yang, Tatsuki Narita, and Valérie Aimard in a varied repertoire. Being keen on chamber music, she founded Duo Ainos (in Hebrew: Praise) with Da-Min Kim, concertmaster of the Marseille Philharmonic Orchestra. Duo Ainos performed in the Festival Appassionata, l’Heure Musicale d’Alain Marinaro, Hôtel de Soubise, 2ème Rencontres Franco-Coréennes d’Art et de Culture in the Ferme de Villefavard, Musicales de Bagatelle, Arsenal de Metz, Opéra National de Lyon, Opéra de Marseille, and Salle Cortot. The duo is the recipient of Banque Populaire Foundation scholarship and won 2nd place at the prestigious International Chamber Music Competition of Lyon. Their duet album was released by Lyrinx Label with the works by Debussy, Strauss, and Szymanowski on the 150th anniversary of Richard Strauss’s birth. The album was broadly acclaimed by critics. It was also broadcast by KBS Music room in South Korea.
She had worked in masterclasses with Arie Vardi, Jean-Claude Pennetier, Jean-Philippe Collard, Idil Biret, Jerome Rose, Leon Fleisher, and Aldo Ciccolini who appraised her as an “Artist” on her performance of Fantaisie by Chopin. She won top prizes in international competitions such as Albert Roussel International Junior Piano Competition of Sofia, the Pianoopen International Competition of Mérignac, Claude Bonneton International Piano Competition of Sète, Valletta International Piano Competition. In 2022, she won the 2nd Prize and Schott Prize at the 2nd Montecatini International Piano Competition.
Mrs Kim has worked as an accompanist for the conducting class at Conservatoire Municipal Chopin in Paris. As an awardee of a full-time Accompanying Teaching Assistantship at Peabody Conservatory, she has accompanied pupils for classes and recitals during her coursework. As an educator, she has been teaching students of a wide range of levels and ages (from 5 to adults).
She also arranges and composes in a classical style. Passionate about learning languages, she is trilingual in Korean, French, and English.
Mrs Kim obtained her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University under the tutelage of Boris Slutsky after having completed the Diplômes de Formation Supérieur (the degrees of Bachelor and Master integrated) in Piano, Chamber Music, and Piano Accompaniment, and Master's degree in Écriture (Composition - Writing) at CNSM de Paris. She also obtained the Meisterklassendiplom at the University of Performing Arts Munich where she studied with Elisso Virsaladze. In South Korea, she has worked with DaeJin Kim at Sunhwa Secondary School of Arts.
Passionate about education, she has taught at Peabody Preparatory and Conservatoire Niedermeyer in Issy-les-Moulineaux, France. She currently teaches piano at a Visiting Music Teacher at Bablake School. As an accompanist, she works as an Associate Cover Pianist at Birmingham Royal Ballet School.
